The first 14 years of this single malt’s existence are spent aging in American white oak ex-bourbon casks. This portion of the process is fairly standard in terms of many Scotch whiskies. Dalmore's stunning 18 year old Highland malt is as rich, fruity and spicy as you could ever want from a Dalmore. Kudos to Richard Paterson for creating another veritable chocolate orange of a whisky. Dalmore is a great brand and has very nice drams. The 18 is very good and complex but lacks some ABV. This is bottled at 43% but you’re missing a little needed punch and the dram feels light on the palate with a medium finish. It tastes like an older Dalmore but isn’t worth the money. The Dalmore 18 Year is finished for four years in year-old Matusalem Oloroso casks. Oloroso is a dark and rich variety of sherry and it is often aged for decades. The 18 blasts onto the tongue with more familiar flavors found in sherry heavy drams thanks to being finished in sherry. Pepper and spices make their way forward and are followed by absolutely delicious and freshly peeled oranges! The mouthfeel is luscious. The 18 rounds out its finish with buttery pepper and spices.
Nose: Flamed zest like an Old-Fashioned cocktail. Barnyard-must and hay is rounded out by prune as it all gives way to fig hanging around in the back.
Palate: Full bodied and robust with small tingles of spice. Red currants and sour cherries blend nicely with more prune. Salted tangerines tighten the palate before wood finally shows through on the finish.
The Dalmore 18 Year is a delicious whisky. Every whisky lover should definitely try The Dalmore 18 Year at some point, but it is best left for ordering at the bar one night with a friend.
Whisky Review: The Dalmore 18 Year. Viscous and oily on the palate, this feels texturally like something that would be expensive. On the nose I get more plum, but also biscuity malt and lots of roasted nuts.
This is a particular nutty and toasty dram, with vinous qualities as well. The fruitiness carries over onto the palate, with syrupy dark berry notes that pair with maple and spicy gingerbread, along with hints of cocoa.
In general, this one reflects more of the port quality, as was clearly intended, being a showcase for dark fruity flavors.
All I can say is that this is a very decadent and memorable dram, although my personal favorite of the lineup remains The Dalmore Regardless, I have clearly found a new distillery to obsess over here—The Dalmore hits the sweet spot of fruit and richness that I often hunt for in Scottish single malt whiskies.

That being said, I cannot say the bottling is an absolute necessity. Worth enjoying a dram while out on the town, should you find yourself in its company.

This 18yr is not only is smooth and flavorful in which you shouldn''t underestimate its ability to smoother your palate. It makes you really appreciate the time spent on making such a fine whisky, especially aging it in 3 ways before bottled.
This used to be one of the best whiskies in the world, but after it turned into a cheap caramel colored alcoholic beverage which is good only for windscreen washing tank.

Great presentation. I keep the box on my bookshelf. It looks like a book, so it keeps the bar raiders aka friends away. This whiskey really grew on me.
I didn't like it at first because with the sherry influence I was expecting the sweetness of a Glendronach, or the punch of a Macallan I didn't get that here.
It's a totally different beast all together. At first I felt it was flat and didn't offer much. However, after I drank a few more drams I started to pick up on the nut notes like walnuts, brazil nuts, and peanuts, and I fell in love.
It's definitely worth the money. Great dram. Something unexpected. I really love Dalmore's whiskies but honestly have to say that 15 yrs is even better than this Cigar malt lose in taste for both.

My son brought me a bottle back from Scotland when he was there. This is the nicest scotch I have ever had, smooth tasting, nice notes a good balance on the palate.
